Alumni Web Sites - some of the best on the net

I'm looking for some feedback on the design of our alumni website.  Not only the ability to handle content, yet, also to manage our alumni data - for the benefit of our alumni.

Here's one I found that expresses my vision of what we should have:  http://www.wasecaalums.com/

Your thoughts?

Post hyperlinks of examples you find and like.

Reunions - funny thoughts!

I thought I'd start a posting on reunion musings...be nice, keep it clean!

Here's one I offer from Erma Bombeck:

“Never go to your high school reunion pregnant or they will think that is all you have done since you graduated.”

Eagle Friends and Dinners Across America

Why do Eagles congregate for dinner and drinks? Because you gotta eat? Well seeing friends you haven't seen for many year may be a great reason, too! Networking is a fantastic fringe benefit. One of our most important resources is human capital, the ability to know and be visible to friends and relationships that can help you find opportunities.

Last night, my bride Kris and I, had fellowship and dinner at Farina's Pizzeria and Wine Cellar in downtown Albuquerque with Harry's 1978 classmates Ray Roberts and Daina (Bynum) Roberts, and Jaime and Susie (Maxwell) Moya. Had a wonderful time catching up with each other.

I believe Lorraine (Vigneault'78) Cimino had her birthday with Robert '78 and Mary Holt recently.

Stacey Bradley Adams’91 had her 8th annual Mardi Gras Bash at her home on Feb 21st…there were many eagles at that well attended event (my guess – over 150 partiers). Some of the best Cajun food I’ve had in a long time!

Let's see, from memory...Joe Mares'90 was in Las Vegas, NV and is still nursing his hangover - met up with some friends who flew to LV to be his designated driver. LOL! Joe’s a hard charging Marine, and was recognized last Andress Homecoming as Outstanding Ex…oh, and he has “bomb ass” kids, too!

Steve Bilbo'74 and Dianne Cantrelle'76 had a recent event, celebrated her birthday last Feb 20 in Austin, TX. Mark Matusof’76, from the DC area, has been flying in to visit the Austin, TX area, or is it to visit some cherished friends?

Melanie Thomas Thomas'74 also organized a well attended El Paso event at Jaxon's Microbrewery on Feb 18th. Jose Ramirez was in town from Denmark…interesting lengths of travel eagles will fly to make it to these events.

And, the DFW area group has probably had the most events since last year, averaging 1 event every 60 to 90 days...and those have been well attended, and many hilarious moments created...just ask Tyrone Pope'78 and Renata Brown'78.

Many of you may notice we have established a number of Andress High Alumni-. These were created for you to join. Join the ones where you may have a better chance of attending organized dinner/happy hour events.

Mardi Gras Bash - Stacey Adam's Home 2/20/2010

Really had a wonderful time with Stacey (7 siblings went to Andress), her family and many of her friends during her 8th annual Mardi Gras Party last Saturday evening.  He's got a wonderful sense of humor, and actually sings quite well.

Other than going to Commanders Palace, or strolling the French Quarter, I have never been to a party with so many Cajun and New Orlean's dishes...I felt I was in heaven!  Stacey and Jamie...you did GREAT!  For my not being able to visit New Orleans this year, especially during Mardi Gras and the Super Bowl winning team's celebrations, you certainly made it worth the trip to El Paso.

Aaaaiiiiiiyyyyyyeeeeee!

Laissez les bons temps rouler.

Alumni Happy Hour-El Paso, TX Feb 18, 2010

Wow, "Oh, what a Night!"

Local Andress alumni converged at Jaxon's - Airport Blvd for drinks, nourishment, fellowship and laughter.  Joe Ramirez'84 was in town from Denmark, the Roberts'77 twins (Lori and Laura) kept us on the edge of our seats with their funny antics.  Skip Zweeres'79 was the one that tipped us over the edge...just ask him about his experiences at Andress and post Andress...if he had shown up earlier, many of us would have spewed our beer in the air, or thru our schnozzes!

Kevin Clark'79 and Harry Asmussen'78 were there to plug the 50th anniversary (everyone received an alumni pin), and I believe everyone also said they would be registering quickly.  Krystal Hoganson'03, the youngest alumni attended with her meager 5 hours of daily sleep; Eric Green'01 (Lori's son) was the second youngest in the crowd.  It looks like the classes of 1991 took the crowd by largest attendance with Stacey Adams, Kathia West and Vicky Floyd.  Stacey has her 8th annual Cajun Festival party this weekend...bound to be a blast!

Bettina Brown-Sweet (Ms. Giggles and smiles) from 79 was there with her Irvin Rocket friend Priscilla (boo!!!!)...just kidding.  She (Priscilla) at least had courage to attend! Bettina is also helping us put together hotel packages for the 50th Celebration (thank YOU Bettina).  We'll hear from her soon as to her findings.

Terry Hammons'74 and his wife'74 (she's a graduate, too, and I do not have her name committed to memory...ugh)...Terry was the photographer of the event.  It looks like Harry's batteries were used up!  Terry...thanks for saving our bacon!

Lucy Neiman (I believe 73 or 74), chose the teaching profession, and actually taught at Andress for several years!  Teachers, do and made a difference!  Thanks Lucy!!  Melanie T squared (Thomas-Thomas)'74 also put together the event...thanks for helping out!  Donna Pettit (75?) was there in great form and humor as well.

Overall a great time had by all...as normal, about 60 percent of these events are attended by those who RSVP....for those that could not make it, perhaps next time....you missed a great time of fellowship!

Next one will be in April...keep your eyes open for the date!

Also, we learned that the IRS agent killed in yesterday's plane crash into the Austin IRS' office was Vernon Hunter, the father of Ken Hunter, class of 1984....our many prayers to the Hunter family for their tragic loss.

For now...soar high!
